The exodus
of big-screen horror fare from fall 2004 continues: Fangoria has learned
that Dimension has shifted Wes Craven’s Cursed out of its October
1 berth, and now intends to release it sometime during first quarter
2005. The Kevin Williamson-scripted werewolf film has had a famously
troubled production, but no official reason for the date switch has
been announced at this time.
Shooting was halted earlier this year due to creative difficulties –
problems with special effects, the film's story and more. At the time
Craven was quoted as saying, "Quite an extraordinary amount of
new material is going to be shot, and a lot of material is going to
be thrown away."
Premise:
An estranged brother and sister living in Los Angeles, mourning the
recent loss of their parents, are brought together by a savage werewolf
attack, forcing them to fight for survival, against both the beast and
the dangers of its virulent curse...
Premise
Note: (12/12/02) Early versions of the script apparently tackled the
werewolf legend in a different way, following the exploits of a New
York City serial killer who discovers that his lethal tendencies are
due to his lycanthrope nature. (11/18/03) Along with the new set of
lengthy reshoots, the premise has changed again. Before the focus became
a pair of estranged siblings, the original core characters were a trio
of strangers who were brought together by a car accident and subsequent
werewolf attack. It's possible that this storyline is still present
in the new script, but it's no longer the emphasis.
